Mathias LYSSY // Wald & Peripherie

Fotografie

Mathias LYSSY // Forest & Periphery

Photography

Tree, Forest, Periphery – these three terms perfectly describe the themes of Mathias Lyssy’s photographical work since 2014. The serial reprocessing of motive and the strong colourful appearance suggest the emotional value that the forest depicts for the artist.

Mathias Lyssy awakens associations and emotions with the picturesque representation of his photographs. Some of them remind one of fairy pictures of Brother Grimm tales, others will transfer the observer into an autumnal walk, leaving all strains behind. Due to the long exposure times the blur and smudge effects and due to double exposures and layering single photographs a surprisingly new spatial impact is created.

More and more daring in movement of his camera work, the pictures of 2016 are more abstract then ever before, structured by the light which plays an ever growing part. It becomes evident that the artist is growing closer to the details of the natural scene as if he was about to submerge into the microstucture-tree – to explore the universal ground plan of elements and light.

Polaroid

The Polaroid Technique accompanies the Mathias Lyssy artistical work for decades, with only seconds to turn the outcome into a paint like creation.

In the year 2009 Kodak decided to cease the polaroind technique. Therefore the polaroid works are completed. The forest themed polaroid works are the last kind of this technique which makes them all the more valuable to collectors!
